What is Augmented Reality ?

What is Augmented Reality?

Augmented reality is the technology that expands our physical world, adding layers of digital information onto it. Unlike Virtual Reality (VR), AR does not create the whole artificial environments to replace real with a virtual one. AR appears in direct view of an existing environment and adds sounds, videos, graphics to it.A view of the physical real-world environment with superimposed computer-generated images, thus changing the perception of reality, is the AR.What is Augmented Reality for many of us implies a technical side, i.e. how does AR work? For AR a certain range of data (images, animations, videos, 3D models) may be used and people will see the result in both natural and synthetic light. Also, users are aware of being in the real world which is advanced by computer vision, unlike in VR.AR can be displayed on various devices: screens, glasses, handheld devices, mobile phones, head-mounted displays. It involves technologies like S.L.A.M. (simultaneous localization and mapping), depth tracking (briefly, a sensor data calculating the distance to the objects).

VIRTUAL REALITY

You'll probably never go to Mars, swim with dolphins, run an Olympic 100 meters, or sing onstage with the Rolling Stones. But if virtual reality ever lives up to its promise, you might be able to do all these things—and many more—without even leaving your home. Unlike real reality (the actual world in which we live), virtual reality means simulating bits of our world (or completely imaginary worlds) using high-performance computers and sensory equipment, like headsets and gloves. Apart from games and entertainment, it's long been used for training airline pilots and surgeons and for helping scientists to figure out complex problems such as the structure of protein molecules. How does it work? Let's take a closer look!

Virtual reality (VR) means experiencing things through our computers that don't really exist. From that simple definition, the idea doesn't sound especially new. When you look at an amazing Canaletto painting, for example, you're experiencing the sites and sounds of Italy as it was about 250 years ago—so that's a kind of virtual reality. In the same way, if you listen to ambient instrumental or classical music with your eyes closed, and start dreaming about things, isn't that an example of virtual reality—an experience of a world that doesn't really exist? What about losing yourself in a book or a movie? Surely that's a kind of virtual reality?
If we're going to understand why books, movies, paintings, and pieces of music aren't the same thing as virtual reality, we need to define VR fairly clearly. For the purposes of this simple, introductory article, I'm going to define it as.  believable, interactive, computer-generated, explorable, immersive.

WHAT IS SECOND-LİFE ?

Hello everyone today I have a new app or website for you. Its name is Second life. This more like a game, let meinform you more

At its most basic level, Second Life is an online environment created by Linden Lab, a company based in San Francisco. Second Life is an online world in which residents create virtual representations of themselves, called avatars, and interact with other avatars, places or objects. Second Life isn't just a fancy chat room -- residents can do much more than communicate with one another. For one thing, they can contribute to the world around them, creating buildings, objects or even animations. Resident additions to the virtual world are called user-generated content, and this content is one of the factors that makes Second Life such a unique online environment. User-generated content also explains why Second Life is for adults only -- Linden Lab places few restrictions on residents, meaning that you can see some pretty raunchy creations while you're exploring the environment.

In Second Life, residents can go to social gatherings, live concerts, press conferences and even college classes. They can do a lot of things you can do in real life -- buy land, shop for clothes and gadgets or just visit with friends. They can also do things that are impossible in the real world -- avatars can fly or teleport to almost any location. Some residents design short programs, called scripts, which give avatars or objects new abilities, including special animations or the ability to generate copies of other objects.

For the conclusion my university which is ISTANBUL UNİVERSİTY also has a account on Second-Life as my computer is not well enough to join that gorup I am not able to show you that account. So for this reason I am giving you the link for you to look at it.

TPACK AND SAMR

Hello everyone I have a new concept today. I have been giving you some tips about some apps untill today but now I dediced to give you some extra information about how we integrate technology into learning environment. There are two frameworks that we will be studying on.

SAMRAs we start integrating the laptops into our classrooms, we need to be aware of their impact on student learning.  We can evaluate how we are integrating technology using the SAMR model.  This model looks at 4 steps of technology integration and how this can impact learning.

The first stage is Substitution, which is the easiest stage for any teacher new to using the computers in the classroom.  I often refer to this stage as “digitizing worksheets”, because all you are doing is replacing the old way with the same thing, but using a computer.  This is not a bad place to start but if we have no tools in the classroom, we should be able to use these new tools to improve instruction and learning.

Augmentation comes after Substitution.  In the Augmentation stage the technology is adding some improvements over the old way.  There is still not a lot of change in how things are done but there is some functional change.

Modification happens when significant task redesigns occur.  We are giving our students new options and they are able to do things in a much more effective way using the computers.  There is a big difference between this stage and the Substitution stage, which should correlate into better learning if the focus is always on the desired outcomes.

Redefinition occurs when the technology has allowed for the creation of new tools and methods that were not possible before.  We are creating a brand new learning environment for our students, hopefully one that is focused on the 4 big questions;  what do we want all students to know, how will we know when they have learned it, how will we respond when learning hasn’t occurred and how will we respond when learning has occurred.

TPACK is a great tool for helping us as we traveling on this path of 21st century learning. It aligns our understanding of technological, content and pedagogical knowledge and how they interact. A truly effective teacher today needs to be knowledgeable in all three areas in order to truly have a 21st century classroom.

TPACK looks at the overlap of three main knowledge areas; Technological Knowledge (TK), Pedagogical Knowledge (PK) and Content Knowledge (CK). TCK is the overlap of the Technological and Content Knowledge, or how technology can assist the content in a way to improve learning. PCK is the overlap of Pedagogical and Content Knowledge that looks at how content affects the pedagogy used in the classroom. TPK is the overlap of Technological and Pedagogical Knowledge that looks at how technology works with the pedagogy being used and how the pedagogy determines which technology will work best in the learning environment.

Technology is interwoven into both aspects, pedagogy and content, in order to make the learning more effective for the learners. It is the partner in the equation and not just an added thing to be included, it must be paired with the pedagogy and content.

The end product of TPACK will be different from classroom to classroom depending on the specifics of the students, the teachers and the situations they are in. There is no one look to proper TPACK integration but is a framework to help guide to a more engaged and effective learning environment.

LANGUAGE LEARNING APPS

Hello everyone. Today I will be going on telling you about the language learning apps. instead of saying all features of the apps I will try to make it short and full of information with it.

First app is Duolingo. As I know Duolingo has been teaching 23 different languages and for the most wanted one is English which has 30 million learners. It doesnt assure you to learn the second language as a professional way but instead it assure you to speak the target language fluently in the daily life. For the exercise part, it give you some exercies based on reading, speaking and writing. And you have three right to make mistakes. If you dont make mistakes you will get extra point.

Second app is Memrise. This app has some differences from the previous one. It gives lots of importance to memorization of words. So it keeps giving you the same words over and over so that you can keep them in your mind. Especially  when you encounter with a hard word you can create a memes for yourself to remmember them very well.Besides what I like about this app is that while teaching a new word it voices the word with a native speaker and computer voice, which gives you the chance to hear the word in realtime world.

Third app is Mondly. It is a little bit different form the other. As its structure is alittle diferent. For example while reading and speaking its background is different. their optinal quesitons are different. For me it is good to see different structures while learning a language. Another good thing is that whlie you are learning something new you are in a rivalry with the other people, which acccording to my opininon is really motivating to be in race with other people while learning something.

Last app is Busuu. That is my favourite app.First I enroll to this app I did make a plan about my language learning and as the day passed I get notification every day to remind me that I have plan and I need to study my lesson. The different type of questions got me at the very first time. İnstead of basic classic quesiton types I did true and false, completing a dialogue and many more.I did have a real fun while learning a new language.I think you should try this app too. So see you next time...
